Just 2.5 hours directly South of Calais by the A26 autoroute, the Champagne area makes an ideal destination for a long weekend or short break at whatever time of the year you choose to go. Take your time, meandering down the three 'Route Touristique de Champagne' North West and South of Reims. These signposted routes will take you on the small roads through the heart of the Champagne vineyards where you can stop at your leisure for a tasting at one of the many small producers along the way. You can buy excellent quality Champagne at unbelievable prices
The grape harvest or 'vendange' takes place the last week of September and early October. Don't miss the spectacular Autumn colours of the vineyards in late October. Visit the tranquil towns that lie alongside the Marne, with their quaint old riverside quays. Of course you should not miss the cathedral at Reims and the Avenue de la Champagne in Epernay.
