British bed and breakfast near Rouen and Giverny in Normandy France

ID: 433
This pretty, English-owned bed and breakfast near Dreux south of Rouen in Normandy is in a lovely peaceful situation on the edge of the quiet but thriving little village of Bourth which is awash with flowers throughout the seasons.

The village is just 3 1/2 hours from Calais, 2 ¼ hours from Dieppe, 50 miles south of Rouen and 1 ½ hours from Paris. If you fancy a day trip into the city or to Giverny, do ask your hosts as they will be quite happy to give you a lift to the rail station which is by far the easiest option.

The British hosts at this B&B clearly love having guests and will welcome you into their home with a nice cup of tea on arrival. You'll also find tea and coffee making facilities in your bedroom which is a bonus.

In the evening, make yourself comfortable in the guests' lounge where you will find English TV before sitting down to enjoy one of Maggie's delicious evening meals which are really great value. If you need to keep in touch with folks back home while you are away you can do so thanks to the free WiFi internet access here.

I picked this B&B in Normandy largely based on its position in our tour, knowing little of the area or the property. The hosts were wonderful and welcomed us into their lovely home. I have never experienced a B&B accommodation like it and I doubt any will live up to their standards. Maggie & Mick are great hosts, preparing superb food from their own garden and the local providers and serving in a lovely family atmosphere, where the guests and hosts eat together. The evening meal is fantastic quality and value. I would happily stay here for a week or more and recommend them to anyone. One of the highest points of my first independant motorcycle venture into France. It won't be the last and this place is on my itinerary. - Mr Hines

I have to say that, for the price, the bed and breakfast accommodation that we stopped at in Normandy was excellent. We took over the place and had all three rooms, which were on the ground floor (great for my mother who has limited mobility). The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed with tea making facilities, a large bottle of water, etc. Two were en-suite, one had a nearby bathroom: all very new and modern with good fittings. Couldn't really ask for more. There was a sitting room with English TV which was available to us. The location of the house was in a small quiet village, so no problem with traffic noise. The owners were very welcoming without being intrusive and being English, I suppose helped them in knowing the sort of things we like, e.g. a nice cup of tea on arrival! We requested an evening meal in advance which was cooked by the owner and was delicious and very good value for 20 euros: Aperitif, starter, main course (+ wine), cheese, sweet and digestif. Breakfast was continental with fresh bread and croissants purchased from the local baker that morning and jams made by the owner. So, all in all, I could certainly recommend it for an overnighter or even a little longer. - Mr & Mrs Ironmonger

We had a lovely stat at the B&B near Rouen. They made us feel very welcome from the minute we arrived. The meal we had was lovely and in a very relaxed atmosphere - Mr & Mrs BuckeridgeC

Clean comfortable bed and breakfast. Friendly and welcoming hosts - very good with children. Exceptionally fantastic 5 course supper which Maggy had clearly gone to a huge amount of effort to prepare - free-flowing booze too! Separate earlier mealtime for children as requested with beautifully homemade food, made with my daughters nut allergy in mind). Beautiful French village. Would highly recommend - the Tunstills
