If you haven’t yet booked your holiday to France, why not make your destination Burgundy, a mere 5 hour drive from the port of Calais. This British-owned self-catering studio near Dijon still has availability for 1 week starting 6 August for a family of up to 6 people in a double and two twin-bedded rooms. Young children are particularly welcome and well-catered for, with swings and slides available in the big garden. Adults will no doubt appreciate the Burgundy vineyards of the Côte d’Or that are on the doorstep. Remember to leave space in the car for a few cases of red, white or rosé! The accommodation still has good availability in September and October too. Autumn is a great time to visit the vineyard region of Burgundy as the grape harvests will be in full swing and there is a real buzz about the area. Temperatures will have calmed down a bit after the summer highs and, let’s face it, prices are lower too!

In the Champagne region
Just over 3 hours from Calais, the Champagne region is very accessible from the north-eastern ferry ports. There is still good availability over the coming months at these two child-friendly, British-owned self-catering gites which are 30-40 minutes east of Reims and Epernay. The bonus is that evening meals are available here and people travelling with their laptops will have free WiFi internet access. The gites can both be let by the night. Self-catering gite accommodation in Champagne
First up, some beautiful self-catering gite accommodation in the Champagne region of France, painstakingly renovated by the British owners. Suitable for both couples and families with children, there is tons to do in the area. The large gite which can accommodate up to 6 people has availability 18-27 July inc., 1-7 August inc, 17-20 August inc. and from 29 August to 16 September inclusive. The smaller gite for up to 4 people is available 25-31 July inc., 4-11 August inc., 15-21 August inc. and 29 August through into September. Self-catering accommodation in the Vendee
Next, strictly for couples, these two British-owned self-catering units in the heart of the Charente Maritime area of France are just 30 minutes from the beaches of the Atlantic coast, but the swimming pool on site will be most welcome in the summer months. The emphasis here is on informality, peace and tranquillity. The 45m2 Cottage is still available 27 June to 24 July inc., from the 8-21 August inc., 4-11 September and 19-30 September. Self-catering accommodation in Burgundy
Over to Burgundy in eastern France and we have news of two British-owned self-catering accommodation addresses, both ideal for families in every respect;

The first one is smack bang in the middle of the Burgundy vineyards just to the south of Dijon, a fantastic location for the wine enthusiasts out there. This fully-equipped self-catering address can accommodate up to 6 people and has the benefit of both a roof terrace and a garden area in which you can sit and relax. A but further north, closer to Chablis between Auxerre and Dijon in Burgundy, are these two apartments which have been created on the first floor of the old barn and have fantastic high ceilings and old beams. They are suitable for up to four people and will particularly appeal to families of babies and young children, as the owners are able to provide all of the essential and useful kit that you could possibly need. To quote a previous visitor ” If you like old buildings with character and a history this is the place for you.” Set in its own grounds of woodland, fields and a lake in which you can go fishing, this Anglo-French owned chateau near Beauvais North of Paris is offering a 10% discount for stays of 3 nights or more between the 5 and 13 April inclusive. The twin/double room ‘chambre Moustiers’  is available for all dates and the family suite of two rooms (up to 6 people can be accommodated) is available 6-9 April inclusive.  This is both an excellent base from which to explore the historic sites of the area and also for a day trip to Disneyland Paris or even Monet’s gardens at Giverny both of which are a good hour’s drive away.
